Youth Onstage is a performing arts company based in Birmingham, who have been performing as a group for over 20 years. YOS provides a friendly but professional atmosphere, and is a must for any enthusiastic potential musical theatre stars.
We rehearse on Wednesday evenings (7:15 - 9:30pm) and Sunday evenings (5:00 - 7:30pm).
You may not need to attend all rehearsals, depending on whether you are a principal or a chorus member.
A rehearsal schedule is developed for each show, so members know exactly when they need to attend.

Debs loved performing from an early age, playing Dorothy in a school production of The Wizard of Oz when aged 6. She joined Bilston Operatic Society in Wolverhampton as a teenager and then went to Birmingham University to study Music, Drama and Dance. Having attained her degree, she completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Education and became a Primary School Teacher. Debs moved into Primary Headship roles from 2004-2015. She is currently enjoying working back in the classroom as a supply teacher in a Birmingham Primary School. Debs is also the Drama Teacher at Spotlight Stage School in Castle Bromwich and directed a cast of 150 students in Little Shop of Horrors at The Core Theatre, Solihull in April.
Debs maintained her interest in performance by joining BMOS in 1988. She took on the roles of Administrator and Director of BMOS Youtheatre from 1989-2002 when she founded Youth Onstage with 3 of the current committee members. Since 1989 she has directed 2 youth theatre shows a year and has also directed 2 shows with the Solihull Theatre Group. She was thrilled to have been awarded the Love Midlands Theatre Award for her Outstanding Contribution to West Midlands Theatre in April this year, it was a wonderful way to celebrate her thirtieth year of directing.
Debs has loved every show she has worked on. Having damaged her own singing voice in 1984, she has since lived her passion through the children and young people she has worked with and it is her ambition to see as many past members performing in the West End or touring professionally as possible – through them she can live her own dreams!

Having recently graduated from the University of Birmingham with a degree in Maths and Music, Joe is now a freelance musical director, pianist and accompanist. Joe has been interested and involved in musical theatre since a young age – in fact, his very first role was in a pantomime which included several of the songs heard in this one! Joe remained a performer until he reached university, where he became heavily involved with the Guild Musical Theatre Group (founded by our very own Debs in 1988!) and found his passion for musical directing, accompanying and orchestrating. Since then, he has been involved in off-West End theatre, including as Assistant Musical Director with the British Youth Music Theatre for Nightshade (Bridewell Theatre, 2021) and Associate Musical Director for Shirlie Roden’s Jeanne (Turbine Theatre, 2022), as well as working as an accompanist and keyboardist for various choirs and musicals in the Birmingham area.
